C
HURCH RECORDING

Church Recorders
They produce records of the contents of places of worship, describing items accurately and researching the history of these where possible. Church Recorders operate nationwide and are interdenominational. Illustrated copies of the work are presented to the church or chapel, and further copies are held by the national institutions and form part of a heritage archive.

Who are they?
They are members of NADFAS who give their time and energy to help preserve our heritage.
They have commitment, enquiring minds, discipline and enthusiasm.
They are individuals with the ability to work as part of a team.
They are people who find the work stimulating and rewarding.

Training
You do not need to have in depth knowledge of the areas covered as training is given by experienced Church Recorders and experts in the relevant fields. We have an ongoing programme of training which operates at national and local levels to maintain a high standard of work.

Next step?

Join a Church Recording Group either as a Society or National Member. To do so: contact your Society Chairman or the Department of Volunteering at NADFAS House.

What we do and where
We record: memorials, metalwork, stonework, woodwork, textiles, paintings, library, windows and miscellaneous items.
We operate from the Isle of Wight and Cornwall to the Highlands of Scotland, the Isle of Man and Ulster.
Our Records are held by the local church, diocesan or county record office, Victoria & Albert Museum, Council for the Care of Churches, National Monuments Record Centre or equivalent organisations in Wales, Scotland and N. Ireland.
