INTRODUCTION
NADFAS embodies the fun of friendship, the stimulus of learning and the satisfaction of volunteering.
The Brecknock Decorative & Fine Arts Society – founded in 1987 – is a member of the National Association of Decorative & Fine Arts Societies (NADFAS). The centre of activities is in Brecon, Powys, and members come from a wide surrounding area.
Although a Decorative and Fine Arts Society, the aim is to help members gain knowledge of all aspects of the Arts, by offering a wide variety of Lectures, Study Days and Special Interest Days. The Society currently has around 230 members and it welcomes visitors and guests of members to any of the events.
Members enjoy a programme of eight lectures each year plus an Open Day in September. In addition, visits are arranged to places of historic and cultural interest, many not normally open to the general public. Overseas trips are organized every other year to alternate with shorter breaks in the UK. The Society had a very successful trip to Jordan in March 2011.
Lectures are held in the superbly equipped Brecon Theatre, on the 1st Tuesday of every month, from October to June. Lunch can be taken in the Theatre’s restaurant, Tipple’n’ Tiffin, before the lecture. Members are then welcomed from 2.00 pm, with the lecture starting at 2.30 pm in the auditorium, and everyone is encouraged to stay for tea afterwards.
The Society encourages its members to participate in various activities in the community and there are, currently, three very active volunteering groups, Church Recorders, Heritage Volunteers and Young Arts, working on a variety of local projects. Please use the links above to find much more information about these very worthwhile projects.
The vision for the Society is to be a thriving, membership-driven organisation, which will be widely acknowledged for its valuable contribution to education in the arts, volunteering activities and heritage conservation.
