Heritage Volunteering

NADFAS Heritage Volunteers help to conserve our heritage both in Britain and in parts of Europe.
Conservation and preservation of our heritage are tremendous burdens on the limited resources of museums, National Trust properties, historic houses, libraries and gardens. Volunteers help them in non-specialist but vital ways by caring for collections, recording documents, guiding and stewarding. Heritage Volunteers help to keep them accessible for all.

NADFAS Heritage Volunteers are:
·
Members of NADFAS who give their time to help preserve our heritage
·
People with commitment, discipline & enthusiasm
·
People who have the ability to work as part of a team
·
People who find the work stimulating and rewarding

Training:

Appropriate training is given to all Heritage Volunteers by professional conservators, advisors or curators when working with books, archives and the preventative conservation of textiles in historic houses and in museums.
In addition study days widen experience and knowledge and increase the opportunities for volunteers to be involved. Many projects are long term and require regular commitment.

Projects:

BDFAS has been engaged in a lengthy project during 2010 of restoration of an altar frontal for the St.John the Baptist Church, Halesowen, now satisfactorily completed. Click this link to see more detail

Subsequently, the BDFAS group has turned its attention to the South Wales Borderers’ Museum in Brecon, and it is working on embroidery made by soldiers during the lst World War, Regimental Belts, Standards and the Royal Welsh Colours, which are in need of urgent repair.
