Historic carpets in the English taste
David and Sara Bamford
The lecture elaborates on their specialist knowledge of antique oriental carpets, in particular those acquired by the English landed classes in the eighteenth century. It includes a description of the techniques involved in both conservation and replication. An enlightening talk for all lovers of fine carpets, and an essential introduction for anyone wishing to participate in the speakers' March workshop.

This husband and wife team began conserving and restoring carpets for the National Trust in 1976. Realising how many priceless carpets were being ruined through neglect and ignorance, David conceived the idea of using historic weaving techniques to replace these threatened antiques, going first to Turkey and now mainly to Bulgaria for the craftsmen. Today they continue their work of conservation for English country houses, specialising in the eighteenth century.
